History and Heritage
A stay that allows you to discover Lille, the capital of Hauts-de-France, through a rich and varied heritage. Marked by strong Flemish influences, Lille bears the testimony of all its history in its heart.
School level: middle and high school
The Old Lille, the Grand’Place, the old Stock Exchange, the Palace of Fine Arts are all places that testify of its past. French since the end of the 1600s, its growth has never stopped. With your students, you will also learn about the region’s mining past. The history of the 4th largest French metropolis and its region will no longer hold any secrets. Discover the city by bike in Dutch, go on a trip back in time at the Asnapio archaeological park, visit the natural history museum and the Lille zoo. Also, enjoy a fun mini cruise for all, a bowling evening and discover the environment and the work of the miners at the Historical Mining Center.
Time travel
– 3 days/2 nights + full board –
Day 1
Morning: discovery of the city by Dutch bike. This is the history of the city but not only, it’s also its life today, its evolution, its way of life.
Afternoon: go for a trip back in time to the archaeological park Asnapio. Discover the habitats of our ancestors from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages.
Evening: activities proposed by the youth hostel team.
Day 2
Morning: visit of the Natural History Museum of Lille. Permanent and temporary exhibitions and workshops allow you to discover a rich and varied cultural heritage.
Afternoon: located at the foot of the ramparts of the Vauban citadel, the Lille Zoo presents more than 100 animal species in 6 thematic zones.
Lille by boat: enjoy a fun mini-cruise for all ages.
Bowling night.
Day 3
Morning: the Centre Historique Minier is the most important mining museum in France. Discover the environment and the work of the miners and participate in the animation in connection with the school programs “the daily life of the minors” led by a cultural mediator.
