The Dordogne, a verdant region with a rich history, has no shortage of places to discover! Our specially-designed holiday packages will take you on an assault on the Périgord and its highlights. With visits to castles and sites that marked the prehistoric era, your students get a practical, hands-on view of life in this era. The discovery class in the Dordogne is a timeless experience for everyone.
You’ll be staying at the unique HI Cadouin youth hostel, housed within a 12th and 13th-century Cistercian abbey. An atypical setting with an intimate, enclosed courtyard and communal areas for evening gatherings.

Day 1
Arrival at HI Cadouin youth hostel. Installation in the rooms.
Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2
Morning : Breakfast and departure for Château de Biron (listed Historic Monument and a major site in Aquitaine).
Guided tour with a choice of activities depending on the age of the children:
– Cycle 1: “Once upon a time, there was a castle”: children discover the castle with a storyteller who will amaze the young (and old!) with his legends and stories of yesteryear.
– Cycle 2 and 3: “From defense to resistance”: From medieval fortress to Renaissance residence and 18th-century apartments, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the different roles of a castle over time and discover its fabulous history!
This is followed by an activity of your choice:
- Introduction to medieval dance: Discover 3 medieval dances and follow the steps!
- Art of the table: Discover recipes from the Middle Ages and set the table as it was in those days.
- Coat of arms: Design your own coat of arms.
Picnic at the castle.
Afternoon: Discovery of the Cadouin Cloister. This masterpiece of Gothic art is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Dinner and overnight at HI Cadouin.
Day 3
Morning: After breakfast at the youth hostel, off to Eyzies de Tayac, the birthplace of prehistory. Guided tour of the Grand Roc cave, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Picnic on site.
Afternoon: Guided tour of the prehistoric shelters at Laugerie Basse archaeological site in the Vézère valley. Atelier Cro-Magnon Architecte with the creation of a prehistoric shelter.
Dinner and overnight at the youth hostel.
Day 4
Morning: Breakfast followed by a visit to the famous Lascaux cave, one of the world’s most important prehistoric discoveries! Guided tour of the Grotto and self-guided tour of the rest of the center.
Afternoon: Departure for Parc du Thot animal park. Self-guided tour of the Cro-Magnon Museum, which explains the context and environment of Cro-Magnon man at the time of Lascaux. To extend the experience, head to the animal park, which features all species related to prehistory.
Dinner and overnight at the youth hostel.
Day 5
Breakfast in HI Cadouin marks the end of our stay.
